Going and Coming

Half the Trip!

The trip from San Manuel to Indianapolis was pretty routine. We did it with two stops along the way. Weather was a deciding factor, as the Indianapolis area was under the gun of storms. So, Michael decided to swing south of the storms and then punch through the center of the aftermath.  It worked out great.

Day One!

The race is over. It is time to leave and head back to San Manuel.  So, on Monday the 26th of May, Mike Fister, Mike Dudley, and Kent climbed into the Piper Comanche 250 and headed west.  The weather was very threatening and forced us to fly north around the main thunder/tornado storm areas due west of Indianapolis and bearing down on "Nap Town" like a freight train! As clever as it was to go north, we still ended up running into bad weather. So after the new "Fister Button Hook" we ended up in Omaha, NE.   Defeated! I bought a hangar for the airplane, we bought airline tickets, and Tuesday morning the three of us flew home on the airliners.

Day Two!

Back in San Manuel where the sun is always shining, I watched the weather in Omaha.  Finally, it looked like the storm system would move through Omaha around 8:00 AM on Friday.  So, I jumped on the airliner and headed back to retrieve our airplane. The storms were still going strong and the light show and noise kept me awake as I lay in the motel bed.  Finally, it was morning.  The weather was still bad.  But, at almost 8:00 AM exactly the clouds parted. So, off I go for a nice day of flying. It was bumpy as hell, but ... Hey!.... The sun was shining!!!
